Safaricom PLC has announced a KSh 15 million platinum sponsorship for the 2025 Devolution Conference.
The high-profile gathering will bring together governors, policymakers, and civic leaders from across Kenya to examine the progress of devolution 12 years after its inception.
The three-day forum, which opened this week in Homa Bay under the theme “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice,” is being framed as both a stock-taking exercise and a platform for charting new paths toward equitable growth.
Safaricom’s chief executive, Dr Peter Ndegwa, said the sponsorship reflected the company’s ambition to be “a digital partner of choice” for Kenya’s 47 counties.
“The 2025 Devolution Conference offers a timely opportunity to reflect on how technology can drive inclusion, improve governance, and transform service delivery,” he said.
Safaricom plans to use the event to showcase several of its digital innovations aimed at public service transformation.
These include IoT for County Efficiency, a tool for digitizing public utilities and fleet management; Digital Public Infrastructure for Payments, a secure platform designed to streamline bursary and school fee disbursements; Ziidi MMF, a mobile-based money market fund; and Tunza Mapato, a financial management service designed to help women protect and grow their income.
The Telco says these tools are designed to help county governments improve efficiency, transparency, and financial inclusion, goals that align with Kenya’s wider push for a more citizen-focused devolution model.
“Our ambition is to support county governments in creating smart, inclusive, and prosperous communities,” said Dr Ndegwa.
He added that genuine progress in devolution will depend on collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The Devolution Conference, widely regarded as Kenya’s premier governance platform, has in recent years evolved from a political showcase into a more policy-focused arena.
