Deputy President William Ruto says Kenyans want to know the truth on who killed Sgt Kipyegon Kenei and the culprits held to account.
In a Twitter post, DP Ruto in a veiled attack slammed the DCI and the media, the latter for being used to run a smear campaign against his office.
On Thursday, March 6, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation boss George Kinoti gave a blow-by-blow account which linked Kenei’s death to the KSh 39 billion fake arms deal involving former CS Rashid Echesa.
“The truth MUST be found on WHY, HOW and WHO killed Sgt kenei. The family, ODP and Kenyans want the TRUTH & JUSTICE and culprits held to account. The drama, distortions, convenient half-truths and the smear campaigns in sponsored headlines amounts to criminal cover up,” wrote the DP.
Kinoti while releasing the CCTV videos also claimed Echesa and his accomplices had spent more than an hour in DP’s office, a position which contravened the DP’s 23 minutes assertion.
The DCI boss further claimed the office of the DP had ‘doctored’ a CCTV video that had Kenei edited out.
“…the motive of the cold murder is very clear. It was simply to safeguard, protect, insulate and or save the source from the adverse involvement and attendance consequences using the country military procurement process in the most deceitful and fraudulent manner,” said kinoti.
The detectives are waiting for full postmortem tests on toxicology and histology which they say will help greatly in the probe.
