Late Daniel Moi’s Press Secretary Lee Njiru,71, has downplayed claims he could be late former president’s son.
Speaking on JKL on Wednesday, February 5, Njiru admitted he had shared a resemblance with Moi “as a brother but not as a son”
With more prodding from the show’s host Jeff Koinange of taking a DNA test, Njiru gave a cryptic answer to demonstrate his point.
“I was born in 1949. Before then, President Moi had never been to Embu ,” said Lee Njiru.
A section of netizens have been making jokes about Njiru’s striking resemblance to Moi.
” It’s only in Kenya where you work for someone until you start resembling them,” wrote one of the commentators on social media.
Njiru served as Mzee Moi’s personal assistant and press secretary for 42 years and was known to be protective of the image of Kenya’s second president.
Njiru said his contract will be ending on September 11, 2021.
He was born in Runyenjes in 1949. He went to Kangaru School, where he completed his ‘O’ levels in 1968 and then joined the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication from where he earned a Diploma in Journalism and Print Media.
He was only 28 years old when he joined State House as an information officer in the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) in 1976.
