“Falling in love is sudden, easy, and fun. It’s like a child going down a playground slide. Falling out of love is slow, difficult, and painful…”
The above are the enduring words of author Jayden Hunter which might as well describe the rocky marriage between former Standard Group CEO Sam Shollei and the current Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Boss Shollei.
A ruling by a Nairobi court last week allowed the couple to divorce after years of concealed hostility between them.
The ruling had Gladys allowed to keep the urban home in Kitisuru Estate Nairobi and the matrimonial farm in Uasin Gishu.
She has also reportedly been given full custody of the children.
The two have had differences. A driver at the Standard Group remembers the drama that took centre stage whenever the couple met during staff parties.
“ One party was stern and uncompromising and the other half was there to take orders”
But as people in the limelight, the couple was forced to conceal their marital woes from the public in a bid to escape the attention of blogs.
Sam stood with Gladys when she was ousted as Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
What’s more, in the run up to the 2017 General Election, the couple traversed the vast Uasin Gishu county as the Gladys campaigned for the woman representative seat, which she won.
In the wake latest development, it appears Sam has moved on fast. She has engaged Faith Rono.
Sam was granted his wish of marrying Rono on Friday, January 10, when the two lovers held koito (engagement ceremony) at the latter’s Chepkorio village home, TUKO.co.ke reported.
Rono is a former correspondent who quickly rose to become the corporate affairs boss at the company.
