Scientists at Queen Mary Bioenterprises innovation centre in London are seeking 24 volunteers willing to be infected

with the Covid-19 virus and in return be paid KSh 400,000 each.

According to Daily Mail, the 24 participants will be injected with two weaker strains (OC43 and 229E)of the Covid-19 virus that has so far claimed more than 3800 lives globally.

A vaccine developed by the company Hivvo will then be tested on them.

After the exercise, the patients will remain in quarantine for 14 days on a restricted diet to see if it’s successful.

Also, the participants will not be allowed to contact anyone or even exercise.

After the 14 days, their response to the vaccine will be assessed by scientists in protective clothing.

Hivvo announced the plans to test the vaccine after a man in his sixties died from the virus.

However, the vaccine will not be tested until approval by UK’s medicine watchdog.

The World Health Organisation has listed around 35 vaccine candidates and Hivvo is not among them.

In the same vein, the UK government has pledged KSh 6.4 billion towards the fight against the disease.
