Raila Odinga Jokes About Death and Having ‘Fun’ in Hell

Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio La Umoja, sparked controversy with comments he made on death and the reason nobody should fear hell.

Raila said some Kenyans have already died as a result of hunger brought on by the high cost of living.

He, however, made jokes about death and the afterlife in an attempt to lighten matters up.

“I was telling some other people that death is not a very bad thing. Shakespeare said that cowards die so many times before their deaths. The brave only taste of death once,” said Raila.

“Death is a necessary evil. And it will come when it comes.”

The Azimio leader further shared his discussion with a friend who joked about having fun in hell.

“Even if you die and go to hell, there’s nothing to worry about. You’ll find so many of your friends there.

“You will spend a lot of time just greeting them before your time for the fire comes.”

Raila spoke during the ‘Transforming a Nation’ conference held by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Nairobi on Friday, November 10.

In addition to making the audience chuckle, the ODM leader’s comments sparked discussion online.

Edward Kipyegon: “Baba has assured us that hell is his next home after earth. Anyway, I don’t believe in those Wazungu stories.”

Leonard Ndirangu: “Is this a premonition? It could as well be, especially after he recently said that ‘they’ will fully support Kalonzo in 2027.”
