Abdullah Hamdok, Sudan’s Prime Minister has survived an assassination attempt targeting his envoy in Khartoum.

“An explosion hit as Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok’s car was driving by but thank God no-one was hurt,” Ali Bakhit, told AFP.

Hamdok was appointed to head Sudan’s transitional government last August, a few months after the ouster of longtime president Omar al-Bashir.

Videos broadcast on regional TV channels as well as social media showed a convoy including several damaged white SUVs and a badly damaged car.

The attack happened near the northern entrance to Kober bridge, which connects Khartoum North with the city center, where Hamdok’s office is.
