Sophia Wanuna replaces sacked content editor Peter Opondo

Media personality and KTN News Anchor Sophia Wanuna has been selected by the Standard Media Group to replace fired editor Peter Opondo.

In an internal memo released by Editor in Chief Ochieng Rapuro, Wanuna will be the new Broadcast Content Editor starting from July, 15.

The memo further disclosed that Wanuna would take over the position untill further notice.

“Last Friday, Our Editor Broadcasting Peter Opondo left the company to pursue other interests. I have therefore appointed Ms Sophia Wanuna to take charge as this segment of our operations until further notice.” He said.

The memo further urged the company’s staff to cooperate and collaborate with Wanuna to deliver quality, in-depth and timely content.

“Editorial staff are hereby notified to collaborate with Ms Wanuna for purposes of keeping pour broadcast operations and our promise to deliver quality, in-depth and timely content to consumer on course. Ms Wanuna takes charge beginning July 15, 2021” The statement read.

This came after, the Standard Media Group fired Peter Opondo.

According to reports, Opondo told his colleagues through a WhatsApp message that his contract had been terminated effective immediately.

Further, the journalist said he was relieved off his duties due to unsatisfactory performance.

“Some personal news. My short stint with Standard Media Group has come to an end today. The company has terminated my contract effective immediately,” Opondo stated.

Opondo added that he was not satisfied with the company’s decision but has since accepted and moved on.

“Sometimes we don’t always see things the same way and some things are just meant to be. So I wish all of you well as you continue with the transformation journey,” he added.
