Salar de Uyuni, located in Bolivia is the world’s largest mirror on earth and also world’s largest salt flat making it qualify among the many unique and mysterious fashion of the earth.
Salar de Uyuni as aforementioned is the world’s largest flat measuring at 10,582 km and it is in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes.

The Salar de Uyuni was formed due to the drying of prehistoric lakes in the crest of the Andes. It is reported that it occurred in the past about 30,000 years ago mainly at the lake minchin.
The largest mirror is also very high with an elevation of 3700 meters and advisable for visitors acclimatization to height in order to avoid the soroche, or altitude sickness.
It’s also, due to its flatness it is the largest desert. According to reports, it is estimated that it contains 10 billion tons of salt and formed by 11 layers of salt with a thickness of 2 to 10 meters each.
In is reported that every year 25.000 tons of salt are extracted.
In the rainy season the salt flat is covered by water and from May to November it remains dry with only salt on it.
During this particular time the flats form octagonal shapes due to the drying process and the ventilation of the salar.
You will also find lithium in Uyuni. Around 90% of world’s lithium is condensed in Uyuni. You will also find colorful lagoons in the area.
There is Red Lagoon and Green Lagoon in the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. They are usually, or at sometimes filled flamingos and local flora and fauna.
There are three species: andean, james and chilean.
