The government has announced that several roads in the capital city will be closed on Tuesday, February 11 during the memorial service for the late Daniel Moi.

The Inspector-General (IG) of Police Hillary Mutyambai announced the disruption of traffic in Nairobi’s CBD and Nairobi-Eldoret Highway on Saturday, February 8.

Mutyambai said the disruption is to allow smooth flow of traffic leading to Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi where the memorial service will be held on Tuesday.

In Nairobi, Valley Road, Aerodrome Road, Uhuru Highway, Likoni and Bunyala road and University Way roundabout will be closed from 6 am.

By the same scale, on Wednesday, February 12, the Nairobi-Eldoret Highway has been cleared of heavy commercial trucks.

Mutyambai said that all heavy commercial trucks and trailers will not be allowed on the Eldoret-Nairobi Highway from Tuesday noon until Wednesday at 7 pm.

“There will be enhanced police deployment to ensure public safety and security, and for traffic control and enforcement along the routes,” he said.

The Government declared Tuesday, February 11, a public holiday to enable Kenyans to participate in the celebration of the life of former president.
