President Uhuru meets Rift Valley governors ahead of Nakuru BBI rally

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, March 9, met governors from the Rift Valley at State House in a bid to stem growing opposition towards the Building Bridges Initiative in the region.

A message posted on State House Facebook page said the governors briefed the president on the planning for the BBI rally scheduled for Saturday, March 21.

” The Governors assured the President of their full backing of the BBI process and undertook to ensure unity and inclusion of all stakeholders in the run-up to the Nakuru rally,” read the message.

The meeting comes at a time when there has been growing opposition to BBI, with a section of the leaders from the region insisting they’ll only allow the rally if it’s led by local leaders.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri last week said leaders in the area would only allow the rally to take place if local leaders were the ones to lead the rally.

” If the BBI is coming to Nakuru, then the organisation should be left to a local team,” said Ngunjiri.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinaynjui, however, vowed to crush any opposition to the rally.

A section of Kalenjin leaders allied to the Jubilee’s Tanga Tanga faction have also accused the president of failing to shield the DP from attacks from opposition politicians regarding the KSh 39.5 billion fake arms deal.
