President Uhuru gives green light to Miguna Miguna’s return

President Uhuru Kenyatta has given the strongest hint that his government is at home with the return of vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Speaking in Kandara during the burial of multiparty democracy icon, Charles Rubia, President Uhuru said his government was keen to protect the democratic space fought for by Rubia and other fallen icons.

” Hata nasikia wengine wanatoka wanataka sasa kupanda ndege warudi waanze kusema..waendelee Hiyo ndiyo uhuru yao (I hear some even want to board plane to return to Kenya, let them know that is their freedom,” said the President.)

The President was reacting to remarks by Kandara MP Alice Muthoni Wahome to the effect the democratic space was shrinking in the country.

The president said everyone was free to voice their opinions, a constitutional freedom he said his government was keen to protect.

He however urged Kenyans to use the freedom to engage in meaningful discourses.

” My prayer is for those who enjoy the freedom to use it to preach peaceful co-existence, to fight injustice and corruption.”

President’s remarks comes hours after Government Spokesman Col (rtd) Cyrus Oguna said the deported lawyer was welcome as long as he carried with him all the required documents for clearance.

Miguna announced he will be jetting back into the country on January 7.

Rubia died on Monday, December 23 and has been eulogised as a fearless icon of multi-party democracy.
