Police officer dies on way to bury mother-in-law in Kitui

It has now emerged that one of the victims of the Awasi accident that claimed 14 lives, October 4 is a police officer who was headed to Kitui county to bury his mother-in-law.

The Police officer, Fredrick Mutuku who was stationed at Kisumu Central Police Station had taken a five day leave to lay his mother-in-law to rest.

A police report indicates, Mutuku boarded the Nairobi-bound Eldoret Express bus ahead of the burial scheduled for Saturday, October 5.

The bus collided head-on with a trailer at Awasi culminating to deaths of 14 people.

Mutuku’s absence and lack of communication perturbed his family, prompting them to reach out for help.

“They got concerned and contacted his cousin, Joseph Mulatia, currently attached to Sega Police Patrol Base, Ugenya Sub-County to come and find out his whereabouts,” read the police report.

In a report published by k24, Mutuku would later be found, dead.

“…the duty officer went to Ahero sub-county hospital in search of the said officer only to find his body lying dead at the said hospital mortuary,” the report read further.

The deceased hailed from Mutomo.
