Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed impeachment plot against him describing it as a worthless pursuit that will not materialise.

Speaking at Chepterwai, Nandi County, on Friday, March 13, DP Ruto told the MPs to instead focus on serving their constituents.

“Those who are planning to impeach me, let me advise you for free: stop engaging in unnecessary plots that won’t be successful,” said the DP.

“Go back to your constituencies and work for your constituents. If you don’t do that, and choose to continue planning my impeachment in Nairobi, you will be shocked to discover that the people who voted you in in 2017, are also planning on how to remove you from office because you are hardly there for them,” said the DP.

The DP further downplayed claims he was moving around the country campaigning under the guise of launching development projects.

“I am fully dispensing my duties as President Kenyatta’s principal assistant. I want to tell those saying that I’m engaging in politics that there will come a day when I will remove my coat, long-sleeved shirts and wear a branded cap and T-shirts to hit the campaign trail.

I hear some people saying that I have already into campaign mode. Let me tell them: I haven’t begun political talk yet! Take it easy! I am still working as the deputy president.”

The DP’s remarks follow recent threats by 75 MPs, mainly drawn from ODM and Kieleweke faction of Jubilee Party, that they would sponsor an impeachment motion in Parliament against the second-in-command.

In a rejoinder, their Tanga Tanga counterparts also held a press conference minutes later and dared their colleagues to try their luck in Parliament.
