A man in Nyamira who recently arrived from the US has been placed under mandatory quarantine together with seven of his family members.

The man flew into the country on March 10 and was screened at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) before finally arriving in Nyamira on March 14.

Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba said health officials accompanied by police officers and Nyumba Kumi officials on Sunday, March 22 traced the man’s home following reports that he was roaming freely, Citizen Digital reported.

Health officials accompanied by police traced the man’s house after they found out that the man was not following the governments’ directive to self-quarantine and was instead roaming around.

The residents of Nyamira have been urged to remain calm as the family will now be under the close supervision of public health officers and security officers.

Cases of confirmed Coronavirus patients in the country have risen to 15 with Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi being among the latest 8 confirmed cases.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Sunday, March 22, said the DG will be prosecuted after recovery for failing to adhere to governments directive to self-quarantine and therefore putting other people at the risk of infection.

It has emerged Saburi got into contact with Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, held a meeting with Kilifi MCAs, spotted at a restaurant and a club.

Governor Kingi has since gone into quarantine despite his tests for the COVID-19 reporting negative.
