Deputy President William Ruto has strongly rubbished claims from his opponents that he does not respect President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with NTV on Thursday, Janaury 23, DP Ruto waxed lyrical about his unwavering support for Uhuru for over two decades.

The DP said claims that he did not respect the president were being peddled by political opponents who don’t understand the treacherous journey the two have traveled.

He said he knew Uhuru in 1998 from where he has supported him in every step of the way.

Ruto said he was the one sent by retired president Daniel Moi to talk to late Mark Too to resign his seat so that Uhuru could come to Parliament as a nominated member.

Moi would go ahead to nominate Uhuru to the House in 2001 after Too resigned to create space for him.

Moi then appointed him as minister for Local Government.

Also the DP said how he stood with Uhuru in 2002 at a time when most politicians accorded the son of the founding father a lukewarm support.

He further said Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa refused to be Uhuru’s running mate in 2013 poll.

The only serious politician who was willing to cede his ambition for Uhuru Kenyatta was William Ruto.”

“ The only people who may have done more for Uhuru Kenyatta in terms of political issues is maybe his wife Margaret and members of his family.

“ There’s no politician who has supported Uhuru Kenyatta more than myself,” recapitulated the DP.

Ruto said he has times without number clashed with MPs allied to his camp whenever he felt they were going overboard in criticism of the president.
