Nairobi-based dental surgeon Nira Patel has died, becoming the latest medic to succumb to the novel coronavirus.

According to reports, Patel succumbed to the virus on Saturday, November 21, barely two days after being diagnosed with the disease.

Until his demise, Patel was the head of dental surgery at The Nairobi Dentist located in Upperhill, Nairobi.

The facility is known for a variety of dental services such as orthodontics, teeth whitening, teeth extractions and replacements.

Patel had over 25 years of experience in dental surgery.


She was married to Doctor Pankaj Patel.

Taking to Twitter, doctor’s union Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) said;

“We mourn the passing on of Dr Nira Patel due to COVID-19 complications. A dental surgeon specialized in orthodontics, a mentor to many and was recently bestowed with the life membership of the Kenya Dental Association. Condolences to the family and friends. May her soul Rest In Peace.”

This came hours after KMPDU announced the passing of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Head of Renal Unit Dr. Anthony Jude Omollo Were.

The 64-year-old doctor succumbed to COVID-19 complications while undergoing treatment on Friday, November 21.
