Nationwide curfew extended by 30 days

The nationwide dusk to dawn curfew has been extended by a further 30 days in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the county.

According to the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the rules will apply to all counties even those in Lake region which had been place in strict orders following high rise in COVID-19 cases.

While updating the nation about the new COVID-19 containment measures at the Harambee House in Nairobi County, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe insisted that the number of COVID-19 cases has spiked in the recent days.

The CS also noted few counties that had had indicated an alarming surge in cases.

‘However we are seeing an increase in these cases in other counties including Kiambu, Kajiado, Lamu, Makueni, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Taita Taveta and for the first time also Tana River,” Kagwe said.

The Health CS further suspended all public gatherings that includes office meetings for the next 30 days.

In his speech, Mutahi noted that political gatherings had become the super spreaders.

“When you call a political gathering in a street where people are many is it super spreading. There is no point in carrying the rallies, then we have more deaths then we go to the funerals and then cause more deaths,” CS Kagwe said.

Places of worship have been allowed to operated but asked to highly observe the COVID-19 protocols.

Mutahi further asked employers to allow their employees to work from home.

The new containment orders further ruled burials to be carried out within 72 hours after the confirmation of the demise.
