Nakuru man digs up father’s body after 14 years to retrieve ‘expensive’ shoes

To most people, the idea of exhuming a body of someone who died 14 years ago is bizarre, shocking and almost unimaginable.

Residents of Maseno village in Subukia, Nakuru County are still coming to terms with an incident where a 27-year-old man was found exhuming the body of his father who died 14 years ago.

The police officers and members of the public pounced on Patrick Mwangi at 8am, October 2, 2019 while digging up the body.

According to Nakuru Police Commander Stephen Matu, Mwangi was out to retrieve a pair of shoe which his father – Johnson Ndonye – wore when he was buried in 2005.

In a report published by The Standard, Mwangi explained he wanted to sell the leather shoes which in his estimation would fetch a good price.

However, the pair of shoes according to the police was in a bad shape.

“The suspect told the police that he wanted to sell the shoes. He waited for members of his family to leave the home before exhuming the body but the shoes were rotten,” said Matu.

Police arrested Mwangi and ordered that undergoes psychiatric evaluation before he can be charged for disturbing the dead.

Matu said permission to exhume is granted only by court of law. Plans for reburial are underway.
