Nairobi County Majority Leader and Spring Valley Matopeni Ward MCA Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo has been suspended after missing 11 consecutive sittings.

The Nairobi County Assembly Select Committee on Powers and Privileges learnt that Guyo missed 10 Assembly sittings between January 2020 and March 2020 and thus his 1 year suspension.

The committee said that the MCA missed the sittings and failed to explain the reason of his absence to the speaker further dismissing the committee as a ‘kangaroo court’ when he was given a fair hearing.

Having missed the sittings without explanations, the committee ruled that Guyo has breached Standing Order 242 and article 194 (1)(b) of the constitution.

This comes two months after Nominated MCA Habiba Hussein lost her seat after missing Assembly sittings for 2 years.

Hussein had been in and out of hospital after a complicated pregnancy in 2018 that resulted to the death of her new born baby.

Baby Shadia died from a blocked A-V valve just a few hours after birth with doctors suspecting that the baby’s complications were caused by ulcer treatment that the MCA was taking during her pregnancy.

Guyo and Speaker Beatrice Elachi have been at loggerheads with the latter accusing Guyo of being behind her woes late 2019.
