Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested in Voi. This comes a few hours after the Director of Public of Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered for his arrest over graft allegations.
Haji had called for Sonko’s arrest in the morning of Friday, December 6, over misappropriation of KSh 357 million.
@EACCKenya confirms that Nairobi City County Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi has been arrested while escaping arrest at a road block in Voi and is being transferred to Nairobi to face charges of corruption and economic crime.
Other county officials wanted in connection with the case include county secretary Peter Mbugua, members of the tender committee Patrick Mwangangi, Samuel Ndung’u, Edwin Kariuki, Lawrence Mwangi, Preston Miriti among others.
Sonko and the county officials will face charges of conspiracy to commit economic crime, willful failure to comply with the law and conflict of interest.
