Nairobi: 4 police officers arrested for stealing KSh 1,030 from man

Four police officers from Ruiru, Nairobi County have been arrested after robbing a man while enforcing COVID-19 curfew rules.

The victim, took to social media narrating how the four officers handcuffed him, took his phone and forced him to share his Mpesa pin and carried out the transaction.

The officers managed to steal KSh 1,030 from his Mpesa and deleted the Mpesa message from his phone.

Later,after they took their exit, the man reached out to his mobile network service provider, Safaricom and managed to retrieve details of the transaction.

The police officer proceeded to transfer 1030/ to his phone, transaction code (PHC3JFK18D), phone registered under Martin Ndichu Kamau, and immediately transferred the same to another line,” said the aggrieved civilian.

After his lamentation online, other users angrily called out officers asking the seniors to take actions .

The uproar on social media forced the Ruiru security committee to launch investigations and confirm if the accusations were true.

Geoffrey Githinji who is the Kiambu Assistant County Commissioner reported that it was true and confirmed they would be charged for robbery.

Our assurance is that we will not allow the civilians to be troubled by officers charged with the responsibility to protect them. The four will be taken to court. We will also hunt down the others suspected to be taking part in such acts,” said Githenji.
