In an exclusive interview aired live on NTV, Raila said most of his wealth is in property and shares of companies.
“People say I’m very rich. I am not rich. I am just worth about KSh 2 billion which we own collectively as the Odinga family,” he said, when the interviewer Joseph Warungu asked him to declare his wealth.
The former prime minister denied claims that the Odinga family had used its influence to create wealth for itself, saying his siblings, just like other Kenyans, are earning salaries from their jobs after undergoing a competitive process.
“Our father Jaramogi died a poor man. We inherited very little from him as his children. It must be remembered that throughout his life that he was in government for only two and a half years.”
This comes days after Deputy President William Ruto in a similar exclusive interview with the same TV station declined to mention his worth.
