Activist Mutemi Wa Kiama was on Tuesday night dramatically arrested by DCI officers.

The officers arrived at Kiama’s house and demanded him to open the door for them. However, the activist started a Facebook live where he was heard telling the officers to identify themselves or slip the warrant of arrest under the door.

After minutes of negotiations, the officers broke the door and got hold of Kiama.

The live stream was suddenly cut after one of the officers snatched his phone as a commotion ensued as the officers were forcefully arresting the activist.

Kiama was taken to Capitol Hill Police Station in Upper Hill, Nairobi where he was booked for digital pirating of a book.


Kiama who spoke to a section of activists who visited the Capitol Hill Police Station revealed that he was arrested by 4 officers from the Serious Crimes Unit and 3 others from Karen Police Station.

Further, he claimed the officers took two laptops and a phone, they also reportedly brutalized him and taunted him asking if he could breathe.

Kiama is associated with Wanjiku Revolt which advocates for a radical overhaul of tainted leaders and a restructuring of the system, in abid to bring to an end things such as corruption.

He is also a renowned critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the entire Kenyatta family which he has severally accused of mismanagement of public resources.
