Police in Mombasa on Tuesday, February 11 arrested a 33-year-old man carrying a python snake in his suitcase.

The man identified as Karisa Iha was nabbed at Kenya Ferry crossing channel with the 10kg snake.


According to a police report seen by, the suspect was passing the x-ray screening area when he was intercepted by the ferry security team.

“The suspect was passing the island screening area through the x-ray when he was intercepted. He was arrested and will be charged with the offence of dealing with a life wildlife species without a permit or other lawful exception contrary to section 95(c) of the wildlife conservation and management cat 2013,” read the report.

The man had wrapped the 2.3 metres long Python with a piece of cloth like a small baby inside his travel bag.

It hasn’t been established where the man was taking the reptile although residents say its skin fetches good money in the black market.
