Police have identified a man who was photographed carrying an AK47 assault rifle while in civilian clothes.
According to Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo, the man is an Administration Police officer is stationed in North-Eastern Kenya.
“He is our officer who was crossing over to Muthaiga where the police vehicle was, to join his colleagues” Ndolo said.
This comes after residents of Pangani and netizens raised the alarm on Tuesday, January 14 about the unidentified man photographed striding majestically while carrying a weapon.
But in other photos that emerged on Tuesday evening, police are seen wrestling the man to the ground, then hand-cuffing him in what looks like a typical arrest.
It is said the officer is based in North Eastern and had just collected his gun from Pangani Police Post where he had stored it.
It was then that officers who were not aware of his circumstance wrestled him to the ground and took away the weapon only to later identify him as an AP.
