The Senate Business Committee has today, Tuesday, June 16 proposed an 11-member committee to hear and investigate Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s impeachment motion.

However, the Senate plenary is this afternoon set to debate whether Waiguru’s impeachment case will be heard by the select committee or the whole House.

The 11 Senators are; Sen. Abshiro Halake, Sen.Michael Mbito, Sen. Mwangi Paul Githiomi, Sen. Beth Mugo, Sen. Anuar Loitiptip, Sen. Philip Mpaayei, Sen. Cleophas Malala, Sen. Beatrice Kwamboka, Sen. Stewart Madzayo, Sen. Judith Pareno and Sen. Moses Kajwang’.

This comes four days after the High Court dismissed a case seeking to nullify Waiguru’s impeachment.

Justice Weldon Korir ruled on Thursday last week, that Kirinyaga MCAs did not violate court orders when they moved forward with the motion.


The governor had moved to court on Wednesday to stop her impeachment process arguing that the MCAs had acted in contempt of court orders in voting to remove her from office.

23 out of 33 Kirinyaga MCAs on June 9, 2020 supported the motion to remove Governor Waiguru from office over gross misconduct.
