Lawyer Ahmednassir faults Uhuru’s move to save Sonko from impeachment

Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for intervening to save Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko from impeachment.

In a Twitter post, the renowned lawyer stated that it was wrong for Uhuru to interfere with the matters of Nairobi county and should have allowed for the constitution to take its course.

“I have never addressed H.E UHURU through Twitter…obviously out of my respect. Tonight I will…out of duty. When Senators Murkomen and Kilonzo Jr appeared in court for Sonko I called them out. H.E Uhuru you are WRONG to interfere with the constitutional process to impeach Sonko,” wrote Abdullahi.

Sonko escaped impeachment by a whisker after President Uhuru Kenyatta held a meeting with Nairobi MCAs on Saturday, February 29 where he managed to convince them to drop the impeachment motion against the flamboyant governor.

Uhuru asked them to act in the greater good of the county as a by election would have thrown the country into untold chaos and interfere with service delivery.

Governor Sonko is facing graft charges where he and his associates are accused of misappropriation of millions of public funds.

Last week he handed over three of the major county functions to the national government.

They include transport, infrastructure, health, roads, lands, housing, and urban planning.
