Kenya Kwanza Power Structure: Mudavadi to Be Prime Cabinet Secretary in Ruto’s Govt

Details of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition agreement has emerged, revealing how power will be shared should Deputy President William Ruto win the forthcoming elections. 

A report by Citizen TV indicated that the document drawn by Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki outlined how parties in the coalition will relate before and after the elections. 

In the power structure outlining the coalition’s agreement, the presidential flag bearer position and the running mate slot is preserved for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). 

Notably, the running mate position is specifically preserved for the Mt Kenya region. 

Should DP Ruto clinch the top seat, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi will be allocated the Prime Cabinet Secretary slot. 

On the other hand, the National Assembly Speaker seat is reserved for FORD Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula while the Senate Speaker seat is reserved for Pamoja Africa Alliance (PAA) leader Amason Kingi.

Further, the agreement provides of a Cabinet what will comprise of 21 ministers that will be shared out inline with the agreement. 

Mudavadi and Wetangula will be allocated 30 percent of the appointive government positions including the Prime Cabinet Secretary and National Assembly Speaker slots, six Cabinet slots and priority development projects in Western Region. 

In exchange, the two leaders are expected to deliver 70% of the Western Kenya votes. 

Kingi who negotiated the Senate Speaker slot also secured a political promissory note for his supporters appointment to top management positions at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). 

However, the outgoing Kilifi governor is required to deliver 50 percent of the presidential votes cast in the August 9 General Elections. 

Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) leader Alfred Mutua negotiated for one Cabinet slot in a ministry relevant to Infrastructure or public utilities such as Energy or Water. 

If he misses the ministerial position, he will settle for of being nominated to either the National Assembly or the Senate where he will become the Minority or Majority leader.

In return, Mutua is expected to garner for DP Ruto 35 percent presidential votes cast in three counties of Ukambani.
