Kirinyaga MCAs on Tuesday, June 9 passed a motion to impeach Governor Ann Waiguru over gross violation of the Constitution abuse of office and gross misconduct.
After the debate marked by violent confrontation between the pro-Waiguru and anti-Waiguru MCAs, a total of 23 out of 33 MCAs voted to remove the county boss from office.

Four members of the county assembly abstained while 4 others were absent.
The Tuesday morning debate was at some point disrupted after Karumandi MCA Antony Munene and nominated MCA Lucy Njeri allied to Governor Waiguru confronted other MCAs claiming that they are using a forged document to ouster Waiguru.
The MCAs engaged each other in an intense push and pull until the speaker directed the sergeant-at-arms to eject Njeri moments before other MCAs forcefully ejected Munene claiming that he was drunk.
Moments before the debate kicked off, Waiguru in a press statement termed the impeachment motion as baseless and a waste of valuable time.
“As I have stated before, the issues raised in the motion are baseless and a waste of valuable time that would be better spent handling the serious issues impacting the county including the corona crisis,” she said.
Further, she said that the tabling of his impeachment motion was illegal since there was a valid court order stopping the debate from happening.

“For some inexplicable reason the members pushing this motion believe or have been led to believe that they are above the law, They believe they are not bound by court orders. Their allegiance seems to be a master pulling and pushing the levers from outside the county assembly and not to the rule of law,” added the statement.
