According to Kinoti, the investigators after examining circumstances surrounding the death of the Sergeant Kenei concluded he was killed by people who were also determined to cover their tracks.
Investigators probing the death had for instance ruled out the theory that the officer shot himself after reconstructing the crime scene, notably of the position his body was found among other factors.
“ If he had shot himself, he would have fallen backwards on his bed and not on the floor as he was found,” said Kinoti on Thursday, March 3.
It has also emerged Kenei was to record a statement on Wednesday, February 19, a day before his body was discovered at his Imara Daima estate.
Communication retrieved by the sleuths reveal the slain cop had communicated to a colleague his intention to record a statement regarding the fake KSh 39 billion arms deal whose principal architect is former Sports CS Rashid Echesa.
“The deceased on February 19, 2020, called a close friend a colleague and inquired to be guided on how to record a statement which implied that the late officer was ready to record a statement on the 19th,” Kinoti said.
Th CCTV footage also revealed Kenei was on duty on the day Echesa and his two accomplices visited DP Ruto’s office.
Kinoti further said there was an attempt by officials at the DP’s office to mislead the investigators by giving the sleuths a ‘doctored’ clip that had Kenei edited out.
“…the motive of the cold murder is very clear. It was simply to safeguard, protect, insulate and or save the source from the adverse involvement and attendance consequences using the country military procurement process in the most deceitful and fraudulent manner,”
The detectives are waiting for full postmortem tests on toxicology and histology in a bid to unravel the murder.
During the Thursday press conference, DCI said Kenei’s death “was 100 percent linked to the fake KSh39 billion arms deal”.
