Kieleweke, ODM MPs accuse DP Ruto of undermining Uhuru, running parallel govt

A group of MPs allied to Kieleweke faction of Jubilee Party together with their ODM counterparts have accused Deputy President William Ruto of mobilizing MPs for the Naivasha retreat with the aim of undermining the president.

The statement read by Suna East MPs said Ruto was heavily reliant on whipping up the political climate in the country in quest for his 2022 presidential bid.

“ Through acts of political brinkmanship, he mobilized MPs without having the decency to inform the president who is the head of Jubilee and the Commander-in-Chief of the defence forces,” said Junet.

The MPs accused the DP of running a parallel system of government “whose only purpose is his desperation for power.”

“ It’s our firm belief that the rationale of Naivasha meeting was a dirty scheme by DP to undermine President Kenyatta,” said Junet.

The MPs queried one of the proposals from the Naivasha meeting demanding inclusion in Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) allocation  of 3.5 percent of national revenue to the Judiciary Fund saying the demand was sponsored by Ruto to gain favour of the Judiciary.

They also slammed the demand to set aside 5 percent of the national revenue to farmers, saying the MPs could as well implement changes to budget in the National Assembly.

The Jubilee Party has since disowned the Naivasha retreat and the resulting resolutions.

“Any resolutions of any meeting not convened in accordance with the provisions of the party constitution are not the official party resolutions,” said a statement by Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
