Kenya has confirmed 49 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases in the country to 830.

President Kenyatta, while addressing the nation at State House in Nairobi on Saturday, May 16 also confirmed 5 more deaths resulting from the disease raising the total number of fatalities to 50.

The 49 cases and 5 deaths is the highest number of new COVID-19 cases and deaths ever reported on a single day since the first case in March.

Uhuru also revealed 17 patients had recovered from the novel coronavirus bringing the total number of recoveries to 50.

Uhuru also expressed alarm at the rising number of imported cases of COVID-19 from neighbouring countries.

According to Uhuru, 43 of the cases reported within the last week were confirmed in border points such as Wajir (14), Isebania (10), Namanga (16), Lunga Lunga (2), Loitoktok (1).
