“Amekuwa paralysed penye risasi iko iko katikati ya ubongo penye iko imekata macho; macho imegeuka…nilikuwa nimeweka matumaini yangu kwake…yote ndani ya maisha yangu, na kuona maisha yake inakwisha hata heri mimi nife…..,” the boys father, Jacob Gathumbi told Citizen TV.

Destiny was reportedly shot on Friday, January 17 while playing with his agemates at the Neci Educational Centre.

He is reported to have fallen suddenly then only managed to rise and take a few steps to where the teachers were and collapsed.

Noteworthy, riots were ongoing about two kilometres from where Destiny was located.

Police reportedly fired in the air to scatter a crowd that was protesting the killing of a local youth. Gathumbi suspects his son was hit by one of the bullets.

“We saw him falling down, so akajaribu kujiamsha yeye mwenyewe, so akaendelea ku-walk, ju kuna teachers who sit here so akafika pale akaanguka chini,” his teacher Lameck Omariba said.

According to Omariba, Destiny was bleeding from his ears when they got to where he had fallen down.

“Kuna mawe hapa ukiangalia, so nikadhani amegongwa na mawe, ju hata ile statement nilipeana kwa nurses, ni that alianguka …..akagongwa na mawe,” he said.

Destiny was rushed to a local clinic where the nurses redirected them to Kenyatta National Hospital citing the matter was critical.

It is at Kenyatta where it was revealed that Destiny had a bullet lodged in his head.

“Kuona anakufa kwa risasi ju zinarushwa kiholela, hazijulikani vile zinakuja ju the whole day, pande ya Kamukunji zilikuwa zinakuja kwa hewa, wengi waliumia ju wengi walikuja hata kwa ward penye mtoto alikuwa pia kuna mwingine alikuja akiwa ana risasi kwenye mguu,” his father said.

Gathumbi has since made an official complaint at the Pangani Police Station, awaiting to record another statement at Kamukunji Police Station.

Kamukunji was thrust into chaos on Friday after a police officer reportedly shot a man leading to a confrontation between them and police officers.

Locals say that the police officers shot into the air to disperse the crowd.
