Omondi, who bore the nickname ‘Gearbox’ was attending a workshop in the company of his colleagues from the Education Committee at the time of his death.
Omondi, a former mechanic rose to prominence after he garnered 5087 votes compared to his rival Michael Irungu’s 1902 votes in the 2017 poll.
The news excited Kenyans as few expected Omondi, a Luo to triumph in a predominantly Kikuyu area.
