Gideon Moi has been handed the baton to carry on with Moi’s political legacy.
Raymond Moi, who was presented with departed Mzee Daniel Moi’s baton instead chose to pass on the leadership mantle to Gideon.
“ All of you know the real cockerel has passed on. In terms of seniority, I’m now the head of the family, but politically Gideon will take over the mantle,” said Gideon.
And in what appeared like a cryptic message to the Baringo senator to consider contesting for president, he said:
“ Because Mzee loved and protected all Kenyans, we’re also appealing to him (Gideon) to resuscitate KANU and make it a vibrant party,” said Raymond.
On his part, Gideon said the endorsement by his elder brother came as a surprise and promised to do his best.
“Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this. Even just holding it is an honour, but I will do my level best,” he said.
During his 24-year presidency, Moi always appeared in public with his trademark ivory baton which was considered his ultimate symbol of power and authority.
