A US-based doctor has warmed the hearts of many after settling KSh 71 million medical bills for cancer patients under his care.
Speaking to CNN, Dr Omar Atiq said that he is grateful to give his patients a little bit of assistance, adding that he has always had an element of doubt about people worrying about paying for services when they are sick.
“If this gave them a little bit of assistance then I am grateful to have had the opportunity to do so,” he told CNN.
“There has always been an element of doubt in my mind about our fellow citizens, fellow human beings having to worry about paying for services when they are sick,” he added.
The doctor shared the good news with his patients via holiday cards that he sent to all his patients during the Christmas festivities.
The note thanked each patient for trusting him with their care and followed with the generous surprise.
“I hope this note finds you well. The Arkansas Cancer Clinic was proud to have you as a patient. Although various health insurance pay most of the bills for majority of patients, even the deductibles and co-pays can be burdensome. Unfortunately, that is the way our health care system currently works.
“Arkansas Cancer Clinic is closing its practice after over 29 years of dedicated service to the community. The clinic has decided to forego all balances owed to the clinic by patients. Happy Holidays! Best Wishes. Signed. Dr. Omar T. Atiq,” read holiday card.
