Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Head of Renal Unit Dr. Anthony Jude Omollo Were is dead.

According to Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, Were succumbed to COVID-19 complications while undergoing treatment.

The 64-year-old doctor succumbed to the virus on Friday, November 21.

“KMPDU mourns the loss of eminent nephrologist Prof A J O Were who has succumbed to COVID19 complications… Heartfelt Condolences to the family, friends and the medical fraternity,” KMPDU wrote on Twitter.

While announcing his death, the medical practitioners union urged the government to implement all the demands in the strike notice.

Dr Were previously served as a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi, consultant physician and nephrologist.

The medic was also the president of the African Association of Nephrology and deputy director of the East African Kidney Institute.
