It has been confirmed that Pope Francis does not have coronavirus. The report comes after the pontiff was seen coughing and sneezing in public necessitating him to go for tests.

The pope had cancelled several appointments and official engagements in the past few days after coming down with a heavy cold.

According to Il Messagero an Italian Newspaper, the Pope had been subjected to tests which reported negative.

On Sunday, March 2, he cancelled a week-long Lent spiritual retreat, the first time that has happened during his papacy.

Some of the symptoms of coronavirus include cough, fever and breathing difficulties. The pope who resides in Italy, where at least 1,800 people have been affected and 52 have died from Coronavirus showed one of these symptoms: coughing which lead to the suspicions.

At 83, his age also makes him vulnerable to illness, especially since the virus tends to take a heavy toll on those of age 60 and above.


As of March 3, the outbreak has affected more than 89,000 people globally, with a total death toll in excess of 3,000.
