A Indonesian coffin maker became an instant millionaire after a meteorite worth over KSh 203 million fell from space and crashed through the roof of his house.

According to a report by Daily Mail, the coffin maker identified as Josua Hutagalung was working on a coffin outside his house when the meteorite fell.

The 33-year-old explained that the meteorite weighing 2.1 kg was still warm and partially broken when he picked it.

“The sound was so loud that parts of the house were shaking too. And after I searched, I saw that the tin roof of the house had broken. When I lifted it, the stone was still warm,” he said.

Hutagalung later sold the rock to US meteorite expert Jared Collins who then sold it to a US collector, currently storing it at the Centre for Meteorite Studies at Arizona State University.

“My phone lit up with crazy offers for me to jump on a plane and buy the meteorite. I carried as much money as I could muster and went to find Josua, who turned out to be a canny negotiator,” Collins said.

The coffin maker said he now had enough to retire, further saying that he has plans to build a church in his community.
