Jack Ma, Alibaba Group founder and China richest man has donated $ 14.4 million (KSh 1.4 billion) to help find a vaccine for the Wuhan coronavirus.
According to a social media post from Jack Ma Foundation, the billionaire has set aside KSh 580 million for two Chinese government organisations.
The foundation said the remainder of the funds will be used to support “prevention and treatment” measures, the foundation said.
The donation follows an announcement by Alibaba that it is setting up a $144 million (KSh 14.4 billion) fund to buy medical supplies for Wuhan and Hubei province, the epicenter of the virus outbreak.
So far the Chinese government places the number of those killed by the virus at 259.
Locally, the Kenya Airways has stopped all flights to China.
