A new poll has established that Deputy President William Ruto is still the most preferred presidential candidate with only 95 days remaining to the August 9 General Election.
The survey conducted by the Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA), indicated that the second in command enjoys national support of 39%.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leader was closely followed by his main and arch political rival ODM leader Raila Odinga, whose popularity was capped at 32%.
In the findings that were released on Thursday, May 5, the researchers noted that even though a total of 47 candidates have declared interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta, the respondents said they had made up their minds to only vote for either Ruto or Raila.
“Notwithstanding the fact that some 47 people have declared that they will seek the presidency, nearly all Kenyans who have made up their minds say that they intend to vote for either DP William Ruto (39%) or former PM Raila Odinga (32%),” the research findings stated.
The research was conducted between April 22 and 26.
Also, the survey established that Ruto’s UDA was still the most popular party commanding national support of 34%.
On the other hand, Raila’s ODM, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party enjoyed combined support of 26%.
However, among the coalitions, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance emerged at the top with 36% followed by Kenya Kwanza with 33%.
The findings elicited varied reactions on social media.
