The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has given Deputy President William Ruto a green light to vie for the presidency.
The electoral agency’s chairman Wafula Chebukati cleared the DP on Saturday, June 4, after submitting all the required documents.
While making the announcement at that the Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati presented the certificate of registration to Ruto who was accompanied by his running mate Rigathi Gachagua and their allies.
“The application of William Ruto and running mate to participate in the August presidential election is approved. I will now present you with a certificate of registration,” said Chebukati amid cheers from their supporters.
In his speech after being cleared, Ruto thanked the agency insisting that they are confident in it to deliver credible elections slated for Tuesday, August 9.
“Mr chairman, we are committed to the code of conduct we have signed… We are confident with your stewardship,” said Ruto.
Also, the second in command called on the media owners to be fair when covering political campaigns.
It is worth noting that the DP and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance members have been complaining that their rivals in the Raila Odinga led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party have been receiving more coverage during prime time news.
In conclusion, Ruto urged his supporters and Kenyans, in general, to maintain peace ahead of the polls which are due in 65 days.
