Rabai MP William Kamoti is dead.
The lawmaker died on Sunday, May 29 after being involved in a grisly road accident at Stage ya Mazima along the Mombasa – Malindi highway.
Confirming the accident, Kilifi North sub-county police boss Johnathan Koech said Kamoti’s driver is fighting for his life in hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at around 9:30 pm after the MP’s car hit the lorry while trying to overtake it.
The car hit the lorry causing it to roll several times.
“I saw the vehicle rolling. When we reached where it landed, we saw two people one of them was thrown out while his legs remained in the car
“The driver was in his seat. We rescued them but unfortunately, the MP died before we got assistance to take him to the hospital,” Eric Nyamawi was quoted by the star.
Kamoti was serving his second term having being elected on an ODM ticket in 2017.
He is said to have been returning home after clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) when the accident occurred.
The late MP was mourned by his colleagues in the Parliament and other politicians who regretted his loss and sent condolences to the family.
