Mathare MP aspirant Weston Wanjohi has revealed he is planning to use KSh 65 million for campaigns.
Wanjohi said the money is for buying foodstuffs and improving the livelihoods of the Mathare residents as he appeals for votes in the constituency.
The businessman who is also a close ally of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader Gideon Moi said he hoped to fundraise the campaign money from friends.
Wanjohi said he was not interested in using campaign materials, “because the people of Mathare do not eat Tshirts, caps, banners, posters, billboards etc.”
“I also prefer door to door silent campaigns, no brokers, no noise making vehicles, promotional materials or even bodaboda convoys”
“I do not have money but I rely on well wishers and I will fundraise.
My budget is Sh.65 million.” Said Wanjohi.
The flamboyant politician further promised to lobby for government jobs for Mathare residents.
He also promised equal sharing of bursaries among all the communities in the area.
“I will do what we used to do wakati ya Nyayo that is camp in State House and Government offices and parastatals for employment/appointment letters for my people,” he said.
The KSh 62 million war chest elicited mixed reactions, with some of the commentators accusing the aspirant of buying support of the residents.
Makieu Deng: You only remember citizens with food when it’s election time. Kenyans can’t be bribed with a loaf of bread.
Blessed Davi: 65m?????? What will you earn as your salary for the coming five years?ama utajua mahali utarejeshea pesa Yako?ni kiulizo tu!!!!!
Sarrand Sarrand: At least you Know what common mwananchi needs now… Food, food, food.
Abey Amin: If you will use 65M to campaign, just drop your bid and use that money.

Wanjohi will be vying against among others the incumbent MP Anthony Oluoch (ODM) and singer Kevin Kioko aka Bahati (Jubilee).
