We’re yet to receive pledges from Uhuru, Raila and Sonko – Families of Precious Talent School (video)

Families of victims of Precious Talent School tragedy that claimed eight lives are yet to receive financial aid promised by President Uhuru, ODM leader Raila Odinga and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The pledges were to cater for funeral expenses and in rebuilding the school which one of the classes collapsed killing 8 pupils and scores nursing injuries.

In a viral video captured during the funeral service of the fallen pupils on Tuesday, October 2, one of the speakers said only Deputy President had so far honoured his KSh 800,000 donation to the families.

“Raila Odinga came during the memorial mass and promised that the president had given him money to donate, he also gave us own personal pledge. We’re yet to receive that money.

“Sonko also promised to cater for the funeral expenses but he has not delivered the money, in fact we got stranded at the mortuary and I had to make calls to MP John Kiarie to help us. I am saying this because the information out there is that the government has catered for funeral expenses, that is a lie,”

During the memorial mass held on Friday, September 27, Raila said the president had given him KSh 2 million out of which KSh 1 million was to comfort the parents while the remainder was to be channeled towards the rebuilding of the school.

The ODM leader also made a personal pledge of KSh 1 million making the total amount to stand at KSh 3 million.

On Wednesday evening, Governor Sonko vowed to deal with officials with regard to the matter.

“My CECM education, chief officer finance and chief officer Dissaster management confirmed to me that each family that lost a kid in the precious talent school tragedy in Dagoreti received KSh 100,000 through their bank accounts to cater for funeral expenses.

“Besides that the county provided 8 coffins and transport to each family. Watasema hiyo pesa walitransfer kwanani. I dont play with emotions especially with families that are mourning. I mean what I say and I will do a thorough follow up kesho.” he wrote.
