Uhuru’s speech at Magufuli’s requiem mass halted over Islamic prayers

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech at the requiem mass of the Late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli on Monday, March 22 was abruptly stopped over muslim prayers.

Muslims pray five times a day every day. In the afternoon, they take a few minutes to remember God and the greater meaning of their lives. The prayer is called ‘Asr’.

The head of state travelled to Tanzania on Monday, March 22 joining President Samia Suluhu for the state funeral of John Magufuli.

 

Uhuru, who chairs the East African Community was accompanied by CS Adan Mohammed.

The president was among head of states who were present in the requiem like South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Malawi’s Lazarus Chakwera, Botswana’s Mokgweetsi Masisi and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame.

Other present presidents were Zambia’s Edgar Lungu, Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa and DR Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi.

The burial of the late Magufuli is slated for Friday, March 26 at his home in Chato district in Geita region.

The late president’s body is expected at the Dodoma grounds on Monday, March 22 for public viewing before being moved to Mwanza on Tuesday,March 23.

Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli was announced dead in a televised address on Wednesday night, March 17.

According to Tanzania vice-president Samia Suluhu Hassan, Magufuli had died of heart complications.

She said that Magufuli was hospitalised on March 6 at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute.
