Uhuru reacts to memes on COVID-19 restrictions

On Friday, netizens shared all sorts of memes terming today an independence day as they hoped the Head of State would relax the curfew among other COVID-19 measures.

This was fueled up by the fact Uhuru had hinted at relaxing curfew and cessation of movements declared in some counties.

“I have told health officials and my ministers that they should start telling Kenyans that we cannot be under a curfew or lockdown forever. We cannot keep on telling Kenyans to stay at home, or that they should not tend to their business or even go to work,” he said at that time.

During his briefing on the way forward following the expiry of curfew and cessation of movements in various counties, Uhuru acknowledged the memes, however, saying that the government is not imposing strict measures as a punishment but for the well-being of Kenyans.

“Nimeona meme mingi ambazo mmetuma tuma, ati freedom day, independence day. Hii si mambo ya independence hii ni mambo ya maisha jameni, hatufanyi hii kuumiza mtu yeyote, twafanya hii kuhakikisha kwamba tumelinda maisha ya wananchi wetu,” he said.
