Uhuru Didn’t Participate in 1969 Oath Against Odingas – President’s Cousin Now Says

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin, Captain Kung’u Muigai has apologised to the Head of State for castigating his decision to endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga.

On Wednesday, March 2, Kung’u said Uhuru’s decision to front Raila as his preferred candidate is against oath taken by the GEMA nation in 1969 where they swore never to support Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and his kin.

He also said that the decision was his personal decision and it did not reflect that of the Kenyatta family.

However, Kung’u has now apologised to Uhuru over his utterances and embarrassments caused by the same claiming that his statement was taken out of context.

“It is unfathomable to my family and friends to think that I would have the audacity to address his excellency through the media. I, therefore, take this opportunity to apologise to him for any embarrassment that it might have caused,” he said on NTV.

Kung’u also clarified that Uhuru was not involved in the GEMA nation oath.

“I do not talk politics because politics is a personal decision and whenever I talk, I talk as an elder and in the national council. I think (the remarks) were taken out of context,” he said.

Uhuru endorsed Raila for the presidency during a meeting at the Sagana State Lodge where he noted that he has the best interests for the country.

He added that he will have no problem supporting Deputy President William Ruto in future but only if he reforms.

“I appeal you to support Raila. Help him to the top. Even my friend Ruto, can become president someday akishika line. Tushikilie huyo Mzee (Raila) mara hii, huyo kijana (Ruto) tutafikiria baadaye

“Let’s hold the old man’s hand and if the other young man also reforms, I have not stopped anyone from supporting him,” Uhuru said.
