Uhuru bans travel in and out of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, Nakuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, March 26 banned traveling in an out of four main coronavirus infected counties.

The counties put under lockdown are; Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, Nakuru.

The new order will be effective on Friday, March 26 at midnight until further notice.

“There shall be a cessation of all movement by rail, road, all air, into and out of the disease infected area as one zoned area comprising of the counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru effective midnight tonight until otherwise notified,” the president stated.

According to president Uhuru Kenyatta, the four counties under lockdown recorded 70% of Kenyans infected with Covid-19

“That fully conscious that 70% of Kenya’s reported cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the Counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru, these counties are individually and collectively declared a disease-infected area.

The head of state further also adjusted curfew hours in areas with high cases of COVID-19, the highly infectious respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.

In a televised address to the country, Uhuru said curfew in the five counties will start at 8pm and end at 4am effective tonight.

The president however, noted that other Counties will continue with the 10pm to 4am curfew.

Uhuru directed restaurant,hotel and  eateries in the  said counties to only sell take aways. He also banned operation of bars in the same counties until further notice.

Meetings of whatever nature in Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru were suspended until further notice.

“That all in person meetings of the cabinet and its committees with exception of the meetings of the National Security Council, are suspended until further notice.
